[ A new girl in town. She doesn't look new. BUT SHE IS. She's in one of the classrooms at the school, putting up drawings on the walls. Most of them appear to have been done with charcoal. ]

My name is Tess, and I'll be starting at the school on Monday. I'll be teaching English, and we'll be starting with 'At the Mountains of Madness'. [ In this next statement, those who are not particularly adept with magic may feel a compelling urge to do exactly as she asks. ] If you're a student, I hope to see you there. With a copy of the book, if you can find one.

I was a librarian, back home. [Sometimes.]

Well, it usually surprises me when I lose at anything, probably because I'm so used to getting my way.

[ Wait, why did he just tell her that? ]

[ That was.. weird. He brushes off that previous honesty, though, and just says: ]

I guess because I'm so good at everything. Why else?

Nobody's good at everything.

Everyone else is just not trying hard enough.
